Oviedo sits at the bottom of the table with 29 points, while safety is held by Girona with 38 points and a game in hand, with just three matches remaining in the season. The Asturian side were reduced to ten men early in the second half after Javi López was sent off. Sibo also saw a red card for a reckless challenge on Arambarri.

Oviedo hosted Getafe needing a win to avoid relegation—either mathematically or virtually—but a draw, despite the merit of achieving it with nine players, leaves them all but relegated. They now trail the safety line by nine points with only nine points left to play for.

If Girona secure at least a draw on Monday at Vallecas, Guillermo Almada’s side will be mathematically confirmed as a LaLiga Hypermotion team for next season.

Bordalás’s men, meanwhile, aimed to keep their European hopes alive. They started the matchday in a Conference League spot and wanted to defend that position.

Oviedo had the first big chance in the ninth minute. Hassan produced a brilliant run down the right flank, beating Davinchi before crossing for Ilyas, who unleashed a volley—almost with his back to goal—that hit the woodwork.

Bailly, who suffered a nosebleed after a collision with Satriano in the first minute, was eventually replaced by Costas.

Getafe created their first opportunity when Davinchi set up Mario Martín, whose shot grazed the post of Aarón Escandell. The Valencia-born goalkeeper then made a brilliant save following another effort from Davinchi.

The visitors from the south of Madrid took control of the game. Mario Martín collected the rebound after a scramble, and after the ball deflected off Costas, Escandell cleared it for a corner.

Juan Iglesias also tried his luck from outside the box, while Oviedo responded with Hassan on the right flank and Javi López connecting with another loose ball.

Oviedo reduced to ten men

The second half started with the worst possible news for Oviedo. Javi López’s studs-up challenge on Juan Iglesias initially earned a yellow card from referee Soto Grado, but after a VAR review, it was upgraded to a red. The home side were down to ten men while fighting for their lives.

Getafe capitalized on their numerical advantage by laying siege to the Oviedo area. A brilliant move down the right by Satriano ended with Luis Vázquez heading just wide of Aarón Escandell’s post.

The afternoon’s biggest ovation was reserved for Santi Cazorla, who replaced Thiago Fernández. Getafe, playing in blue on Sunday, had their clearest chance when Arambarri’s header nearly caught Aarón off guard. The Oviedo goalkeeper made a brilliant save to deny Sancris.

Sibo also sent off

Bordalás’s men grew increasingly comfortable on the pitch, and Oviedo ended with nine players after Sibo lunged studs-first into Arambarri’s knee.

Getafe had two more promising chances. One from Satriano from the edge of the box, and another from Luis Vázquez, who turned inside the area and fired slightly wide. Earlier, Almada had made a triple substitution: Fede Viñas, Vidal, and Ilyas were replaced by Borbas, Ahijado, and Forés.

Getafe besieged Oviedo in the closing minutes, but the Asturians held on. However, the draw does little for them—only a miracle can keep them in the top flight.
