Former KHL defenseman Nikita Shchitov has shared his perspective on the Gagarin Cup final series between Lokomotiv and Ak Bars, highlighting an intriguing clash of coaching philosophies.
“I expect a captivating series. I hope it goes the distance—keeping the suspense alive is great for the fans, even if it’s tough for the teams. This promises to be a fierce battle between two very tough, masculine squads. They’ll analyze each other thoroughly in every aspect. In terms of playoff experience, I’d put Lokomotiv as the favorite.
The break before the final was long enough; Lokomotiv’s players have had time to rest and recover from injuries. Ak Bars also had a spell without games, which might affect them in the first match, but both Kazan and Yaroslavl have strong rosters. Alexander Radulov will be a key figure to watch in this series.
It will also be interesting to see the tactical duel between Russian and Canadian coaching schools,” Shchitov stated.
