Leganés Travels to A Coruña with Only Three First-Team Defenders Available for Starting XI

Posted on: 05/12/2026

Kiko Martín, AS correspondent for Leganés, reports that the club heads to Coruña to face Deportivo this Friday, May 1 (18:30), with eight players sidelined—effectively nine when considering the lineup Igor Oca can field. While Rubén Pulido rejoins the squad list, he cannot be selected due to a severe injury suffered in July 2025. Oca has confirmed Pulido might see minutes only in an extreme emergency or very favorable situation.

This leaves Leganés with just three pure defenders from the first team to start the match: Figueredo, Lalo, and Ignasi Miquel. They are expected to start alongside Naim, a natural winger forced into a full-back role due to the team’s current needs.

The full squad list for the match:

**Goalkeepers:** Soriano, San Román, Garrido.

**Defenders:** Figueredo, Lalo, Miquel, Pulido, Macazaga, Sergio Fernández, Beltrán, Gueye.

**Midfielders:** Diawara, Campos, Dani Rodríguez, Roberto López, Naim, Herrero.

**Forwards:** Cruz, Duk, Plano, Álex Millán, Asué, Diego García.

Among the 23 players, six are youth academy members from the B team, with four of them reinforcing the depleted defense.

Problems also extend to midfield. Suspensions have ruled out Cissé, Guirao, and Márvel, who all picked up their fifth yellow cards against Andorra. Additionally, Franquesa and Leiva are not in the squad. Franquesa, the only natural left-back in the squad, had been nursing discomfort since the trip to Las Palmas two rounds ago. He made the squad against Andorra but more to boost numbers than with a realistic chance of playing. Leiva, a right-back from the academy who had been training with the first team, was also substituted with discomfort against Andorra and hasn’t recovered in time.

Other absentees include Melero, who missed the match against Andorra and is still not ready to play, along with long-term injury victims Jorge Sáenz (out for the rest of the season) and Rubén Peña. Oca mentioned Peña could begin training with the group next week.

The extensive injury list also affects midfield, leaving Oca with only two available central midfielders: Diawara and Andrés Campos. At least Diawara won’t need to drop into central defense, as earlier speculation suggested. Campos is likely to make his first start in midfield.
