Fukui Taichi is a versatile midfielder who can play both as a defensive midfielder and an attacking midfielder, orchestrating attacks with a wide range of passes. He excels at shielding the ball while blocking opponents and has also developed his abilities as a winger.
Born in Kanagawa Prefecture, Fukui joined the Sagan Tosu youth system at the U-12 level and progressed through the ranks. As a high school student, he made his debut in the J.League Cup at just 16 years and 7 months old, becoming the club’s youngest-ever player at the time. In 2022, at age 17, he signed a professional contract with Sagan Tosu’s top team.
In January 2023, Fukui made a permanent transfer to German giants Bayern Munich. He initially played for Bayern Munich II in the fourth-tier Regionalliga, and on September 15, 2023, he was named on the bench for the Bundesliga top team in matchday 5 against Bayer Leverkusen. Although he debuted in the DFB-Pokal, he failed to make a league appearance. In January 2024, he moved on loan to Portuguese Primeira Liga side Portimonense SC until the end of the 2023-24 season. Over six months, he made 11 league appearances, scoring one goal and providing one assist, though the team was relegated.
On July 4, 2024, Fukui was announced to join FC Arouca in Portugal on a season-long loan with a purchase option. In February 2025, Arouca exercised the option, making the transfer permanent.
Fukui has since become a regular starter for Arouca, contributing with goals and assists in the Primeira Liga. His statistics for the current season (as of the latest matches) include 3 goals and 3 assists in 32 appearances, with 2 yellow cards and 1 red card. A detailed match log is available below.
