Bryce Elder tossed 5 2/3 shutout frames, lowering his ERA to a major league-best 1.81, and Mauricio Dubon crushed a three-run double to lead the visiting Atlanta Braves to a series-clinching 7-2 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday afternoon.
Elder (4-1) scattered one hit, struck out eight, and walked four for the Braves, who finished a 6-3 road trip. Drake Baldwin and Matt Olson each launched solo home runs as Atlanta improved its MLB-leading record to 28-13.
Justin Wrobleski (5-1) lasted 8 2/3 innings for Los Angeles, allowing seven runs on seven hits while striking out seven and walking one. Max Muncy hit a two-run homer for the Dodgers, who managed only two hits and struck out 10 times.
Atlanta struck first in the second inning when Austin Riley, Michael Harris II, and Eli White strung together consecutive singles, giving the Braves a 1-0 lead. Two batters later, Dubon’s double cleared the bases, extending the advantage to four runs.
After coasting through 5 2/3 innings, Elder encountered his first trouble when he walked Freddie Freeman, Andy Pages, and Kyle Tucker to load the bases. Robert Suarez relieved Elder and gave up a deep fly ball to right by Muncy, but White made a leaping catch at the wall to end the threat.
The Braves added an insurance run in the eighth when Drake Baldwin connected on his 10th homer of the season—an opposite-field blast that made it 5-0.
In the bottom of the eighth, Tyler Kinley allowed a two-out walk to Tucker and Muncy’s two-run homer—a 420-foot shot that cut the Dodgers’ deficit to 5-2. Atlanta responded in the ninth when Olson hit his 14th homer of the year.
Wyatt Mills, pitching in the big leagues for the first time since 2022, relieved Wrobleski with two outs in the top of the ninth and allowed Jorge Mateo’s RBI single to cap the scoring.
