NBA Commissioner Adam Silver released an official statement following the death of 29-year-old Canadian forward Brandon Clarke, who had played for the Memphis Grizzlies since 2019.
“We are devastated by the passing of Brandon Clarke. As one of the most experienced players on the Grizzlies, Brandon was a beloved teammate and leader who played with immense passion and character. Our thoughts and condolences go out to Brandon’s family, his friends, and the entire Grizzlies organization,” Silver said in a statement released by the league.
The 6-foot-9 forward joined Memphis after being selected by the Oklahoma City Thunder with the 21st overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft and was immediately traded to the Grizzlies. He was named Most Valuable Player of the 2019 Summer League and also earned MVP honors in the tournament’s championship game that same year.
